AlkaFibre – Enhancement of by-products of the agri-food chain rich in fibers through controlled fermentation stabilization reactions
The growing pressure on agriculture to meet the food needs of a constantly increasing world population requires the development of more sustainable cattle farming and attentive to the use of environmental resources. ALKAFIBRE aims in this direction, developing an innovative fermentation technology that allows the transformation of by-products of the agri-food chain abundant in the territory (e.g. cereal straw, stems and leaves of legumes, as well as in general processing residues of fruit and vegetables for human consumption) in new raw materials for the diet of ruminants.

GOALS:
Promote more responsible and self-sufficient cattle farming, reducing its impact on natural resources.
Strengthen animal health to obtain safer livestock products for consumers.
Increase the profitability of ruminant production by providing a feed material with good nutritional properties and competitive costs

RESULTS:
The expected benefits for the agricultural food chain are:
Reduction of the costs of disposal of agri-food waste, making available to the regional supply chain an alternative technology to cogeneration processes to reconvert the by-products into products with high added value, enhancing the nutritional power of biomass.
Increased competitiveness of cattle breeders, by containing the costs of food preparation using low-cost by-products available locally. At the same time, the use of GMO-free raw materials increases the value of animals for human consumption.
Minimize the environmental impact of ruminant farming, reducing not only the use of natural resources to be used for animal feed, but also the emission of ammonia into the atmosphere resulting from the incomplete digestion of food.
